Pronunciation practice

Hear a phrase, then say it out loud. Your browser tries to recognise what you said, and we show you how closely it matched. Tap the speaker first if you're unsure.

What this actually measures

This checks how closely the words recognised by your browser match the target phrase. It is useful for practice, but it is not a professional phonetic assessment.

Two things follow from that, and they are worth knowing before you read too much into a number. A strong accent that your browser still understands will score highly. A perfectly good pronunciation of a word your browser does not expect may score badly. Treat a low match as a prompt to listen and repeat, not as a verdict on your Polish.

Your microphone

Your browser will ask for permission before it can listen. You can refuse, and you can withdraw permission at any time in your browser's site settings — the listen-and-repeat part of this page works without a microphone.

Where your audio goes. Speech recognition is handled by your browser. Depending on your browser and device, audio may be processed by the browser provider's online speech service. Speak Polski does not intentionally store your audio.

In practice this means Chrome and Edge — the browsers that support this feature — usually send the audio to their own speech service to transcribe it. Speak Polski only ever receives the resulting text, in the page, and discards it as soon as it has been compared to the target phrase. Nothing is uploaded to Speak Polski and nothing is saved.
