Aspect across all tenses
Aspect stops being a rule and becomes a tool for meaning.
At B2, aspect shapes nuance. In the past it separates a finished event from the background it happened against. In commands it shifts politeness and urgency — and negative commands almost always go imperfective.
| Situation | Aspect | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Finished event | perfective | Napisałem list |
| Background / ongoing | imperfective | Pisałem, gdy zadzwonił |
| Negative command | imperfective | Nie otwieraj okna |
| Single polite request | perfective | Otwórz okno, proszę |
- •Past: perfective = the event; imperfective = the backdrop.
- •Commands: positive often perfective, negative usually imperfective.
